The Apostle Paul functioned with the mind of Christ which includes a Spirit led imagination. This is when you see a believer as they really are in Jesus Christ and how they will be experientially when the Lord is truly finished with them. Paul thought of believers this way and spoke to them and about them in this way.
The church of Corinth was a mess – they were constantly in conflict with one another and divided around various leaders but notice how Paul wrote to them:
1 Corinthians 1:2-8
New King James Version (NKJV)
2 To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all who in every place call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours: 3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 4 I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus, 5 that you were enriched in everything by Him in all utterance and all knowledge, 6 even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you, 7 so that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, 8 who will also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
This is a powerful illustration of the mind of Christ and Spirit led imagination. Because Paul had seen them through the eyes of God he was free to address them from the place of faith. Paul was not speaking a lie, he was speaking from ultimate reality.
Spirit led imagination will lead into Spirit directed praying. This is when you pray for others to experience who they really are in Christ. Examples of this type of praying by Paul can be found at:
Ephesians 1:16-21, 3:14-21
Philippians 1:9-11
Colossians 1:9-12
